Hundreds of Recovered Drug Addicts Graduate from Vocational Training Programs

After completing a six-month course, totally of 514 students graduated from practical training at Pul-e-Charkhi Vocational and Training Center. This center operates under the Management Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The fourth round, six months long, practical training covered skills in tailoring, electrical systems of buildings, show making, bag making, and household electrical appliance repair. These individuals were recently recovered from Drug Addiction.

First, Alhaj Mawlavi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai, Deputy Minister of Labor, spoke at this event. He added, it gives us joy and happiness that we are introducing the marginalized individuals of our society as responsible people, and now they are equipped with vocational skills. They will not only no longer burden on their families or communities, but also they will take on the responsibility to support their families by gaining a fair income.

The Ministry has provided vocational training to over 5000 recovered addicts, not only in Kabul but also in Herat, Kandahar, Paktia, and Paktika provinces. He also added most of the trainees received essential working tools. The Ministry remains committed to expanding this initiative to other provinces in both quality and quantity, Alhaj Mawlavi Mohamad Zahid Ahmadzai further added.

He also urged the graduate and their families to embrace these recovered sincerely, and treat these young people as responsible individuals.

After that, Mawlavi Rahimullah Sarah, Director of Skills Development, also spoke to this event. We collect addicts from cities, streets, villages and rural areas. We provide and equip them with vocational training and distribute work tools which shows the success of this program. Thousands of young people have benefited from this initiative. We are committed to expanding this program to every part of the country to reach every drug affected.

At the end, it is worth noting that more than 5000 recovered individuals from drug addiction have received vocational training in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Paktia, and Paktika provinces. Most of the recovered individuals are now working in their provinces alongside their families.
