High Labor Council Follow-up Meeting

The fifth round of follow-up meetings to discuss the High Labor Council was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Labor Affairs, Alhaj Mawlvi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss irrigation and; how to create employment opportunities for newly returned Afghan citizens.

In this meeting Mawlavi Sadr Azam Osmani, the Deputy Minister for Technical and Professional Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock; Mawlavi Hossamuddin Saberi, Deputy Minister for Finance and Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum; Mawlavi Ghulam Saeed Ehsan, Administrative Deputy of Technical and Vocational Education and Training; representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce; and members of the private sector were present.

During the meeting, they discussed in detailed on reducing unemployment in the country through coordinated efforts and the implementation of various programs. Participants emphasized the creation of new job opportunities based on labor market demands, facilitating employment for returning citizens, expanding productive and infrastructure projects, prioritizing the recruitment of skilled domestic workers instead of foreign nationals, strengthening coordination between the private sector and government institutions, increasing exports, and reducing imports.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister Alhaj Mawlawi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai called on both governmental and non-governmental institutions to coordinate with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs within your available capacities, prioritize newly returned citizens in their recruitment processes.

Representatives of government institutions and the private sector also shared their recommendations regarding employment opportunities for citizens and expressed their commitment to full cooperation through enhanced coordination.

At the conclusion of the meeting, they decided to establish a joint committee under the leadership of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, with the participation of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority, and representatives of the private sector. The committee will review employment creation proposals, identify and assess the skills of returnees, connect them with labor market opportunities, and ensure better coordination, organization, and effectiveness in generating job opportunities for returning citizens.
